What changed on MetroRapid 800 and 837?
On June 7, 2026, Capital Metro moved MetroRapid 800 and 837 to a bus every 10 minutes at peak. At that frequency you don’t need to plan around a schedule: walk to the stop and the next bus is rarely far away. If you’re choosing a new building partly for transit, that’s a meaningful change, and it’s why stop distance is part of every building profile on new apartments near transit.
The transit timeline
| Date | Change | Source |
|---|---|---|
| June 7, 2026 | MetroRapid 800 and 837 at 10-minute peak | Capital Metro |
| 2027 | Red Line Broadmoor station opens | Capital Metro |
| 2027-2033 | I-35 downtown construction | TxDOT |
| 2033 (target) | Project Connect light rail | Austin Transit Partnership |
Which buildings are within walking distance?
We measure walk distance from each building to the nearest stop and keep it in the building’s durable profile. One example from the board: Citizen House Decker in Far East Austin sits 0.46 mi from a MetroRapid 837 stop (Oct 25, 2026). That’s roughly a 9-10 minute walk at an average pace.
What counts as walkable?
Many riders will walk about a quarter to half a mile to frequent service. Beyond that, a bike, scooter, or park and ride may fit better.
Does it lower your monthly cost?
It can, if transit lets you skip a parking space or a second car. Garage and reserved parking often carry a monthly charge at new buildings; see parking costs. We show true monthly with and without parking so you can compare.
Who it works best for
- Commutes along the 800 corridor (North Lamar and South Congress) or the 837 corridor toward downtown
- Renters who’d like a car-free commute a few days a week
- Households that could drop from two cars to one
If your job is at a large campus east of I-35, most commutes still run by car on SH-130; see the Near Work page for drive-time sorting.
