## What changed for Austin transit in 2026?

On June 7, 2026, Capital Metro moved MetroRapid 800 and 837 to a bus every 10 minutes at peak. If you’re choosing

a new apartment in Austin

[/ →](/)

partly for transit, that change matters to you: a 10-minute peak frequency means you can walk out without checking a schedule.

Rail is growing too. The Red Line Broadmoor station opens in 2027, and Project Connect light rail is targeted for 2033. This page lists new buildings by stop distance so you can weigh transit against parking cost.

## How do we measure “near transit”?

Each building on the board has a durable profile: facts that don’t change daily, including the walking distance to the nearest stop. For example, Citizen House Decker in Far East Austin is 0.46 mi from a MetroRapid 837 stop (Oct 25, 2026). We list:

- Walk time to station or stop, not a straight-line distance
- The route and its peak frequency
- Whether a park and ride or CapMetro Pickup zone serves the address

## Which routes and stations matter for new buildings?

| Service | What it covers | Peak frequency or status |
| --- | --- | --- |
| MetroRapid 800 | North Lamar and South Congress corridor | Every 10 minutes at peak since June 7, 2026 |
| MetroRapid 837 | East corridor toward Decker Lane and Colony Park area | Every 10 minutes at peak since June 7, 2026 |
| MetroRapid 801 and 803 | North-south corridors | See Capital Metro schedules |
| Red Line | Leander, Lakeline, Kramer, McKalla, Plaza Saltillo, downtown | Commuter rail |
| Broadmoor station | Red Line, north Austin | Opens 2027 |
| Project Connect light rail | Central corridors | Targeted for 2033 |

Our

explains the frequency change and the rail timeline.

## Does transit lower your true monthly?

It can. Garage and reserved parking often carry a monthly charge at new buildings. If good transit lets you skip a space, or drop from two cars to one, the saving shows up in true monthly. If you’d keep the car anyway, the saving is smaller. We show true monthly with and without a parking space. The

parking guide

[/guides/parking-at-new-apartments/ →](/guides/parking-at-new-apartments/)

covers garage, reserved, and surface costs.

## Who is a transit-first search right for?

It fits if your job or school sits on a frequent route (University of Texas at Austin, downtown, the Domain), or if you’d like a car-free commute a few days a week. If your job is at an employer anchor east of I-35, most commutes still run by car on SH-130; see

Near Work

 for drive-time sorting.

Why it goes wrong

## Why 'near transit' often isn't

Problem 1

### Distance is measured loosely

A listing can say 'near rail' for a stop a mile away. Walk time to station, not a straight line, decides whether you'll use it.

Problem 2

### Frequency varies by route

A stop with a bus every 30 minutes isn't the same as MetroRapid 800 or 837 at 10-minute peak since June 7, 2026.

Problem 3

### Parking still costs money

If you keep a car anyway, garage parking adds to true monthly. A car-free commute only saves money if the route works daily.

So we list stop distance from each building's durable profile, and price parking so you can compare both ways.

The concierge

## How we help with near transit

1. 1 Your route Tell us where you need to go and when.
2. 2 Stop distance We list walking distance and route frequency for each building.
3. 3 Parking math True monthly with and without a parking space.
4. 4 Shortlist Buildings that work car-free or with one car instead of two.

**When something goes wrong:** If the special is missing from the ledger, a fee wasn't disclosed, or move-in slips, we take it up with the community in writing and report back.

Straight answers

## Near Transit: questions renters ask

Direct answer first, then the source and date. If your question isn't here, ask us on the form or by text.

### How often does MetroRapid 837 run?

Every 10 minutes at peak since June 7, 2026. MetroRapid 800 moved to the same 10-minute peak frequency on that date.

### When does the Broadmoor Red Line station open?

2027, according to Capital Metro. Project Connect light rail is targeted for 2033.

### How do you measure distance to a stop?

From each building's durable profile: the walking distance from the building to the nearest stop. For example, Citizen House Decker is 0.46 mi from a MetroRapid 837 stop (Oct 25, 2026).

### Does living near transit lower my monthly cost?

It can if it lets you skip a parking space or a second car. We show true monthly with and without parking so you can compare.

### Which rail stations are near new apartments?

Red Line stations such as Kramer, Lakeline, Leander, McKalla, and Plaza Saltillo, plus Broadmoor when it opens in 2027. We list the distance from each building on your shortlist.

### Is CapMetro Pickup available near new buildings?

In some zones. CapMetro Pickup is on-demand service in set areas; we note it when a building falls inside one.

### Can you guarantee a price or approval?

No. The community sets both price and approval. We confirm them in writing before you sign.
